Tell Olive Garden: Don't Discriminate Against Pregnant Women!

David George, President of Olive Garden

A Philadelphia-area Olive Garden fired an employee of ten years last October soon after she notified management of her pregnancy. The restaurant claimed she was fired over a lost coupon, but other employees were written up for misplaced coupons, and none of them were fired.

The worker says this isn't the first time Olive Garden discriminated against her pregnancy. When she returned to work after giving birth to her first child, she was demoted back to the level of a new hire.

Olive Garden's parent company Darden Restaurants claims, "Darden is a values-based company built on a culture of integrity and fairness, respect and caring, and an unquestionable commitment to diversity. We follow all federal, state and local employment laws." If they truly believe these claims, they must train their management to treat pregnant employees fairly, especially during the time when they need to earn money to support their growing families.

We, the undersigned, are concerned that a Philadelphia-area Olive Garden fired an employee of ten years last October soon after she notified management of her pregnancy. The restaurant claimed she was fired over a lost coupon, but we understand that other employees were written up for misplaced coupons, and none of them were fired.

The worker says this isn't the first time Olive Garden discriminated against her pregnancy. When she returned to work after giving birth to her first child, she was demoted back to the level of a new hire.

Darden Restaurants claims, "Darden is a values-based company built on a culture of integrity and fairness, respect and caring, and an unquestionable commitment to diversity. We follow all federal, state and local employment laws." We believe that if you truly believe these claims, you must train their management to treat pregnant employees fairly, especially during the time when they need to earn money to support their growing families.

We respectfully urge you to train your management to ensure fair treatment for pregnant workers at Olive Garden and all of your brands. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
