Australia, Stop Denying Climate Change!

The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation in Australia is getting ready to fire about 110 climate change scientists because the government is, unaccountably, shifting its focus AWAY from climate change. What?! It doesn't end there. The agency is also redirecting over a hundred other climate change scientists to other research areas.

Scientists are not just disheartened. They say that, on a practical level, these drastic cuts could substantially hurt Australia's ability to cope with climate change symptoms. The country is already one of the driest places on earth, and rainfall in Australia has become a scarcer commodity in recent years--specifically because of climate change. Please join me in asking that the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation maintain its commitment to vital research on climate change with appropriate staffing to address this global crisis.

To the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation:

This is hardly the time to stick your head in the sand concerning climate change. Your recent decision to fire scientists who specialize in climate change is a bad move. By no means can anyone argue that the science is already fully understood. Good science is needed not just to suggest ways to slow the progression of climate change. We also need science to lead the way in coping with the amount of climate change that is inevitable. Please maintain your commitment to vital research on climate change with appropriate staffing to address this global crisis.
