China has emerged as one of the world's most powerful economies but is still mistrusted and feared (as distinct from respected) because since emerging from behind the bamboo curtain, it's government has done little to dispel its autocratic image and apparent disregard for human rights. Quite apart from human rights, decent people everywhere could never accept a society so depraved and bereft of common decency as to accept the skinning of live animals as acceptable behaviour.
It's burgeoning economy has resulted from flooding the world with cheap consumer products produced by a cheap unregulated work force. A fact that is understandable, having regard to its enormous population and fantastic work ethic.
In turn, China has developed an insatiable appetite for raw product from other countries and governments keen to export to China are reluctant to criticise or offend the Chinese government.
Given this background, will your government impose economic sanctions against China or openly criticise the Chinese government or demand that it puts a stop to the Chinese cat and dog fur trade? Most unlikely. However, there will surely be individuals within governments, so incensed and horrified by the trade that they will support Our Cause.
The Chinese government is well aware of the economic power play behind the scenes. It also knows it has a long way to go earn acceptance from the free world.
And make no mistake, China absolutely craves acceptance as a world leader that is trusted and respected and there are emerging signs that it is prepared to adopt more acceptable and responsible policies to earn that acceptance.
It knows that if it behaves or permits behaviour that is abhorrent to people of the democratic world, it will not earn the trust or respect it craves. Its our duty to show China that it can take a single , but highly significant step towards overcoming the prejudice of the millions of free-thinking decent people, if it recognises animal rights and, in particular, abolishes the abhorrent trade in cat and dog fur.
Cat and dog pelts sell for about US$1 each and every year, 2,000,000 cats and dogs suffer a horrific death, skinned alive for the pelts.
For what?
1. An insignificant contribution towards the Chinese economy - a few million US$; and
2. A clear message to the world that so long as the Chinese government permits the trade, China is not fit to take its place as a leading nation and certainly not one that is entitled to any trust or respect.
The "adverse fallout" and abhorrence for the Chinese government resulting from the trade will far exceeds the paltry contribution it makes towards China's economy. It is in China's interest, to abolish the trade.
It's our duty to tell the world about the trade and kick up such a stink that our message reverberates around the world.
Remember Tianamen Square. Let's make this another Tianamen Square - this time, for the animals.

This petition ends on May 31, 2010Sadly, it is the most inhumane form of fur farming, next to anal and genital electrocution. Head bashing, neck breaking are common with "LIVE ANIMAL SKINNING". Animals of all types have their heads bashed with sticks, metal rods, and many other blunt objects before being SKINNED ALIVE. Some are hoisted in the air by their back feet in order to have their heads pounded on the ground, very few die that way. They too, are then skinned alive. After being SKINNED ALIVE, they are tossed aside like garbage to die a horrific and painful death.
In China, cats and dogs who were once someone's pet are stolen from their homes just to be shoved in tiny cages. These animals are compacted so tightly that their little feet hang out and once they arrive at the factories, the cages are thrown from the tops of trucks with the animals inside, like sacks of garbage. In these scenarios, the animals legs, backs, and necks are broken and injured. They will suffer great pain with no veterinarian care before going to slaughter.
The importation of these skins by the United States says that our government supports these horrible forms of animal torture, all in the name of so called FASHION. We, as Americans, urge you to ban the fur trade altogether in the United States of America.

The more I see this, the more disgusted with humans I am, and the more ashamed I feel to be one. Europe has apparently banned the use of dog/cat fur.. why can't the rest of the world!

This is a most brutal way to treat any animal. There is no excuse for putting animals through such torture. Too many to list but it includes animal protection from hunting, poaching, fur trade, medicinal production, testings, and more. |
The excruciating pain these animals must being going through is hard to comprehend. This barbaric torture of animals needs to be stopped immediately.
The cruelty that is happening in China on a daily basis is unthinkable. What is happening makes me feel physically sick, how anyone with an ounce of compassion of feeling torture helpless animals?? Animals have no voice of their own and we need to help do everything we can to bring this cruel tradition to an end and ensure anyone who continues this practice will be duely prosecuted.
Everyone has some kind of role in life and i believe part of mine is to help stop this cruelty now. I dont know how but i have to try and this is where i start , signing a petition inmy eyes aint going to stop it but every little helps i guess.
I cant stand the thought of animals getting skinned alive, as far as Im concerned people should care more about animals in most cases because they cant speak for themselves and dont understand why people are doing these things to them, they feel pain just as much as anyone else and I cant believe animals in the world have and are being skinned alive for money its an absolute tragedy, Im so passionate about animals and If i was one of these rich and famous people I would stop and think about these animals before buying anything. Animals are so important to me, I would love to be able to stop animal cruelty all together once and for all, I refuse to wear fur or leather and I think people all over the world should start doing the same. Because live skinning is not only an absolute disgrace to human race, but it's also a criminal offence by it's nature and should entitle criminal penalty and/or imprisonment.
