Help prevent waste - stop disposable sanitary pads

The industry of disposable sanitary pads and tampons makes millions promoting their "ever better" products to consumers, creating a waste mountain in the wake, not to mention all the resources used to manufacture them. We are promised the most enjoyable experience out of our periods.

But there are alternatives that are more affordable, saves the environment by not producing so much waste and above all (though a personal view, I've heard it shared by a lot of those who've left the disposables) more comfortable.

Firstly there is the reusable sanitary pad. Made from soft fabric, this product is a lot more gentle to the skin, as absorbent as the disposables, and easy to wash and reuse.

My personal favourite is the moon cup, a small silicon cup that when properly inserted into the vagina makes you forget it's there. Perfect if you want to go swim during your period. As someone with quite heavy menstruation I have experienced no leakage when properly inserted. Also good for those with little flow, as it doesn't have to be removed to washing more than about three times in 24-hours.
It comes in two sizes, one for those who have given birth, and a smaller for those who haven't. The latter can be used by virgins too, just have to learn the technique.

Then for those who favours tampons, there are some made of natural sponge. Easy to wash off and nicer than the disposable ones.

As shown, there are more choices in environmental friendly sanitary products than the disposable. Do yourself and your environment a favour, start using these instead and help spread the knowledge of them. Unlike the disposables, the reusables are not a big business, because you don't have to buy them all the time, and therefore they rely a lot of content users spreading the word!
