Save the Hornbill from extinction

The hornbill (bird) has always fascinated certain tribes of Northeast India with its beauty, grandeur and alertness. In Nagaland, tourists flock to 'Hornbill Festival' every year but few know that today, the great Indian hornbill is among the most endangered species in the region, owing to the loss of its habitat and rampant slaughtering for its meat, beak and feathers.

Through this petition we would like to request the concerned Government authority responsible for conservation of endangered birds to fasten their efforts to conserve the endangered Hornbill and spread awareness among the inhabitants of the region where the Hornbill bird is found.
Dear Minister,

The endangered hornbill is facing extinction. The beautiful bird is revered by Naga tribes for its beauty, grandeur and alertness. This majestic bird is linked closely with the social and cultural life of the Naga people, as is evident in tribal folklores, dances and songs.

Forest department officials in Nagaland have confirmed that various species of Hornbill are found in the state. They have also mentioned that due to heavy biotic interference, habitat is miserably degraded and there is lack of protection of these birds and consequently, number of migrating birds to this area is significantly dwindled.

We would like to request you to kindly look into this matter with urgency and initiate efforts to conserve the Hornbill which is very close to our hearts.

Thank you for taking the time to read this petition.

Yours sincerely,

Hornbillfestival.com & Hornbill Conservation Initiative (Green Succession of Nagaland State)
