"Fracking" poses a direct health hazard to many British Columbian's and poses an indirect attack on our access to clean drinking water. It also makes bad economic sense.
The petition of the undersigned states that: We object to the BC Liberal government’s reckless offering of B.C.’s fresh water resources for the purpose of hydraulic fracturing, or “fracking,” of unconventional natural gas reserves. Fracking removes immense quantities of water from the watershed and risks the contamination of our rivers, lakes and groundwater from the seepage of highly-toxic fracking chemicals.
Jurisdictions including France and New Jersey have already banned fracking. Quebec has placed a moratorium on it. Protecting our life-giving water resources is a duty of the Province and the Province must act now to end the undue risk caused by the current spate of unconventional natural gas extraction.
Your petitioners respectfully request that the Honourable House initiate an immediate reversal of all fracking licenses. The contracts were signed under false pretenses and are therefore null and void.
The future of our Province, for the sake of future generations, is far too precious a thing to through away on gas mining through pneumatic fracturing. We demand “GREENER” solutions.
