Please do not rehire Scott Muir.

Although the District Attorney's office was unable to secure a conviction in the 19 counts against Scott Muir, that does not mean that he is a suitable choice for public employment.

The community is outraged, and rightly so. Our children and the town of Stockbridge must be protected.

To the selectmen of town of Stockbridge, Massachusetts: Deb McMenamy, Steve Shatz and Charles Gillett:

In today's Berkshire Eagle, we read that you plan to discuss hiring Scott Muir "in the right way and in a way that is appropriate." In this case, the right thing to do is not return Scott Muir to at-will public employment. Please do not rehire Scott Muir.

The Berkshire Hills School District no longer employs Scott Muir, and we ask that, in the interest of the public and the welfare of the community, you also do not return him to public employment.

Although the District Attorney's office was unable to secure a conviction in the 19 counts against Scott Muir, that does not mean that he is a suitable choice for public employment.

The community is outraged, and rightly so. Our children and the town of Stockbridge must be protected.

Do not return a man to public employment who has, if nothing else, admitted in court to inappropriate behavior with children, admitted to being directed to stop putting children on his lap, and continuing to do so anyway. By continuing his inappropriate behavior, if nothing else, Scott Muir put the school district at risk of a lawsuit, through which it is now suffering.

If you hire Scott Muir again you put the town of Stockbridge at risk of the same.

Although we understand you will do what is required by law, we request you do absolutely no more than that.
