An Appeal On Behalf Of The Sixteenth St. Synagogue And Jewish Community At-Large

The latest in our synagogue’s saga is that the NYC Sheriff has been directed to evict our 67 year old synagogue - effective ANY DAY now. The eviction of the 16th Street Synagogue will affect 1000s of people and will destroy a vibrant Jewish community

We write this letter as a sincere gesture towards reconciliation. Both the Braha Family and our community have substantial investments and interests in this beautiful old building.

Time is Short.

We implore the Braha Family to STOP THIS EVICTION and work with us to arrive at a resolution acceptable to all parties.

The 16th Street Synagogue needs YOUR support.

Please sign this petition appeal NOW and join us as a united voice, urging the Braha Family to keep our synagogue in its 67 year home.

We write this letter as a sincere gesture towards reconciliation. Both the Braha Family and our community have substantial investments and interests in this beautiful old building.

We find it inconceivable that members of the Braha Family, who are Traditional Jews, are demanding the eviction of a synagogue, throwing the congregation, its Torah Scrolls, religious books and memories to the street.

The Braha Family paid 2/3 of the then current market price for the building.  That substantial discount was only available because our synagogue settled a prior litigation and allowed the Braha Family to buy the building – based upon the fact that the Braha Family recognized our right to be in the building forever.   Braha Family members celebrated this fact with the synagogue at the annual synagogue dinner.  Additionally, with the Braha Family’s acceptance, the synagogue invested over $2,000,000.00 of its own funds into renovations of the synagogue’s floors and the non-synagogue floors which benefited the Braha Family and their real estate development.

Tragically the development project collapsed and acrimony ensued. Many attempts have been made to settle with the Braha Family but all of those attempts have failed so far.

We find it inconceivable that members of the Braha Family, who are Traditional Jews, are demanding the eviction of a synagogue, throwing the congregation, its Torah Scrolls, religious books and memories to the street.
