Keep IMP at OCSA!

BACKGROUND:

The  Interactive Mathematics Program (IMP) was introduced to OCSA in the 2008-9 school year. Although the program has significantly less students than its traditional counterpart, it has grown every year and students generally have a positive experience that allows students to understand the math they are learning and apply to real experiences as well as explain their thinking- a skill that is invaluable not only in the academic world but in the business world.

Not only does IMP help students understand what they are learning, but it also lines up perfectly with the new Common Core standards that will be implemented next year. In fact, it has been prepared for about 20 years.

WHY IS OCSA GETTING RID OF IMP?

OCSA has decided to adopt a new "Integrated" mathematics program, which lines up with Common Core a bit more than what has been taught before. However it was decided that IMP and the new Integrated curriculum could not both exist. This decision was made without consulting the students or parents. This is incredibly upsetting as the IMP program has been gaining popularity, with more students signing up each year.  It seems that the OCSA administration may not be fully aware of what IMP is, how it perfectly lines up with Common Core standards, or how it has positively affected students, hence this petition.

We understand fully that students and parents should not be deciding what curriculum is taught at OCSA. However we feel that this program is too valuble and impactful to the students to be cut entirely.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

1. Sign this petition!

2. Share this petition- send it to your friends, family, previous students and prospective students.

3. Have your parents write a letter to Dr. Benjamin Wolf expressing how IMP has helped you and why it should not be eliminated from OCSA. If you are an incoming student who wanted to join IMP, have them explain why you were looking forward to the program and are disappointed that it will not be offered. Students are encouraged to write letters as well, but it is evident that parents have more power and say in the changes OCSA implements.

THANK YOU FOR HELPING TO SAVE IMP!!
