Animal rights laws need to change in Ireland

.Your country's animals particularly equines and dogs are enduring appalling abuse and many are being left to die. Your current animal protection law does not protect them. Garda have no power to remove a suffering animal, caution the owner or instruct them to have the animal treated immediately, let alone enforce a directive. As long as the Garda and your government agencies have no power to deliver effective action, cruel owners will continue to mistreat and/or leave an animal to die; there is no deterrent .

Animal rescues and charities are powerless to help; it is an offence in Ireland to remove animal in distress without the owners consent. If the owner won't agree to a surrender the animal more often than not continues to suffer until death.

Your country's current legislation must change so that effective action can be taken to actually protect animals and that cruel owners and/or guardians are prosecuted.

The signatories to this petition urge you, our Government to legislate now. Until you do, our country's animals will continue to endure pain and neglect; we the signatories believe this is unnacceptable.

If you agree with the above, please sign the petition. Thank you.
