Right now there is a proposal to build a LNG (light natural gas) terminal on Lelu Island, BC. Lelu Island is situated at the mouth of the Skeena River, the second largest salmon bearing waterway in BC.
A recent declaration of indigenous leaders and politicians has called for a complete ban on development citing that it endangers crucial salmon habitat. Pacific salmon, including Coho, Chinook and Sockeye salmon, have been experiencing drastic declines in population since the 1990s, mostly due to climate change, farmed salmon, pollution and development.
These fish are an essential part of BC's ecosystem, economy and First Nations' culture. They must be protected from excessive development, especially at such a key spot as the mouth of the Skeena River.
By signing today you are sending a strong message that our environment is more important than foreign profits. Let Minister McKenna know that salmon habitat must be protected for future generations.

Pacific salmon are an integral part of the BC ecosystem, offering food to countless species. They are a culturally significant food source for many First Nations and they are a provide huge economic benefit to the province.
The proposal for the Petronas LNG terminal at Lelu Island threatens these important fish incredibly. I urge you to stop the development of this project and protect the salmon for future generations.
