Modern population golden cat (1996) estimated 10,000 adults, wherein each subpopulation of not more than 1000. The main danger for them is forest degradation in sub-Saharan Africa. Hunt for gold cats prohibited or restricted in all countries. However, the Pygmies are traditionally valued tails of these cats as amulets to help in the hunt for elephants and skins - as clothing. Need to stop the degradation of forests, as well as wrong to destroy the animals because of the superstitions of pygmies.
