In Canada, annual seal-hunting takes place from November to mid-May, peaking in March and April. During these times, Harp, Hooded and Grey seals, and (illegally) sometimes bluebacks and whitecoats, are hunted using guns (which may not necessarily always ensure a quick death) and hakapiks, which are weapons used to club the seals to death. This is done for their fur and, maybe, body parts. I have read that Canada would sell seal penises, presumably as some sort of "medicine". I have also read that some of the meat of the seals would be used to feed animals on fur farms, aiding to keep the very, very, very cruel fur farming business alive.
This is also done to reduce the loss of fish to seals. So they kill seals, natural predators who need the fish in order to survive and who presumably waste less of the fish than humans do, in order to make money by killing more fish, perhaps causing more devastation to fish numbers and ocean wildlife to sell to humans who often don't need the fish as much as the seals and other wildlife do. That's how messed up the practice of commercial seal hunting and the business of commercial fishing are.
We, the Undersigned, beg for and DEMAND a permanent end to the commercial seal hunt of Canada 🇨🇦. This is not for insulting Canada or Canadians, there are Canadians who are vegan and animal lovers who would disapprove of the commercial seal hunting as well. However, the Undersigned pledge to boycott Canadian fish and fishing industry products until the commercial seal hunting is banned permanently and the Canadian act to enforce both this ban and the current ban/s against the hunting of bluebacks and May you, all the seals, all viewers, signers, sharers, targets and recipients and all other sentient beings be perfectly well, healthy, happy and safe forever ♾.
