Fight for Freedom in Egypt

Egypt is slowly becoming one of the world's worst human rights offenders. While freedom of speech and other pillars of democracy are enshrined in its constitution, Egypt is slowing but surely drowning out the voice of foreign and local human rights groups and cracking down on journalists who are brave enough to criticise the government.

It's not just a few small groups at stake. Authorities are paving the way for a police state that can abuse human rights with no fear of accountability and leave the people of Egypt with no recourse.

We cannot allow this to happen. Sign this petition and let us stand up for Egypt - a country losing its voice.

"Egypt's civil society is being treated like an enemy of the state, rather than a partner for reform and progress," said Said Boumedouha, Deputy Director of Amnesty International's Middle East and North Africa Programme. Human Rights Watch has been instrumental in monitoring Egypt's progression from fear mongering to concrete steps to shut down local and international human rights groups. It makes for scary reading.

The time to intervene is now. We need to stop Egypt from becoming a dictatorship or a police state where fear keeps the people quiet and powerless. We know that only the U.N can start a movement, to push that snowball that will eventually smash into Egypt's brutal regime and bring about change. But it all starts with you. Ban Ki-moon and the U.N will have to notice our voice. We demand it.
