New Zealand Violent Offender Register (Public)

Forensic Psychology has proven that almost all those convicted of murder/Grevious Bodily Harm, have committed multiple acts of animal abuse.  Worst of all though, is those who have abused their children and partners started their path to violence on animals around them.  They escalate from animals to their families, or by becoming bullies and thugs, meanwhile still harming animals.  An animal that is harmed is as much a victim as a child.  They are no less innocent, no less worthy of protection and they have the ability to bring happiness and health to all around them, just like children.  Whether it is a; domestic pet, a farm animal, wildlife or a stray, animals need our protection. In protecting them and having a register of those who harm animals and children we have the opportunity to safeguard both in the future.

Children are dying from preventable deaths.  They are seeing violence in their home, and they are witnessing animal abuse.  How safe is New Zealand going to be if these poor children follow in the footsteps of their parents.  Violence is preventable, but it requires Zero Tolerance and less rights for offenders, while increasing the rights of the victims.  People will say "it was just a dog" or "he didnt mean to kill the cat"  It is the act that matters, intent should have no bearing on the matter.  Violence has a tendency to create further violence that is more destructive each time.  No one wakes up wanting to kill children, but the people around them didnt see or ignored the signs.  With early intervention, support and Zero Tolerence we have the opportunity to change the lives of not only the offender and his/her family, but also protect the lives that would be put at risk.

A Violent Offenders Register will safeguard children, animals, families and the community.  It will enable people to make decisions with more information at hand.  How many times have we heard about molesterers being in positions power around children?  How often do you see animals being harmed by the same people over and over again?  Have you ever wondered why people didnt know what was going on, why they didnt see the signs and the patterns?  With a register, we will have a means to follow these patterns and behaviours, and limit these offenders contact with possible victims.

Should offenders have the right to privacy if it puts others at risk?  Should Offenders have the right to more protections than children and animals, who are innocent and unable to protect themselves?  Should we continue to rely on a system that doesnt work to protect the innocent in this country?

The answer is always going to be NO!
