Stronger Punishment for Semi Tractor drivers that cause an accident resulting in death.

On July 19, 2012 in Antwerp, New York, Jefferson County a tractor trailer failed to stop for road construction and killed 6 people.

The accident was due to inattentiveness of the tractor trailer driver. He was found guilty for reckless driving, a misdemeanor, and a traffic violation of failure to reduce speed for a hazard.

He was sentenced to 30 days in jail on the reckless driving charges, plus a $300 fine, a $93 surcharge and five points on his driver's license.

He was fined $150, plus the surcharge and had three points added to his license for the failure to reduce speed charge.

The laws and punishment for this crime are not harsh enough, it was his job to operate a vehicle of that size and to be attentive of the road and the road construction warning signs. He failed to do so and killed six people and got the same punishment as someone driving a vehicle texting and running a stop sign.
