Pope Francis: Sack Cardinal Pell Now

Many Catholics across Australia have been angered and dismayed by Cardinal Pell's testimony during the Royal Commission hearings into clergy sexual abuse of young children. His lack of empathy, justice and compassion for the victims of such
abuse is hard to reconcile with what Jesus did and taught. This was seen particularly in his attitude towards Mr Ellis and the Foster family.

His few words of apology were hard to take seriously. The victims whose plight was ignored deserve a much more credible apology, one in which words were confirmed by action. This petition is to ask Pope Francis to expect a resignation from Cardinal Pell to confirm his remorse for the lack of empathy, justice and compassion in his administrative decisions affecting those children.

From a public point of view, Cardinal Pell's promotion to oversee the introduction of transparency and accountability into the Vatican Bank's operations is hard to accept. His own failure to accept his accountability for administrative and financial decisions affecting Australian Catholics is difficult to ignore. This petition calls on him to demonstrate true remorse by tendering his resignation as a bishop. If he fails to do that, we call on Pope Francis to sack him now.
