Channel 2M: domestic violence should not be covered up!

Moroccon state TV show Sabahiyat has shocked viewers and campaigners by airing a segment encouraging women to cover up bruises from beatings with makeup and ''carry on with their lives''. The segment showed a smiling makeup artist demonstrating a masking makeup technique on a model who had black and blue bruise marks on her face.

It is not possible to happily carry on with life in a home run by fear, pain and violence. How does domestic violence go unchecked? Building a culture of silence. Ensuring the victim doesn't speak out. Silence comes at a price, and speaking out requires support.

The TV show has since responded to complaints by issuing an apology, but this is quick-fix damage limitation for their reputation. They need to take positive action to counter their horrific message.

Please sign this petition to demand that Sabahiyat air the voices of survivors and share information and advice from domestic abuse services in order to provide positive outreach to viewers experiencing domestic violence.
