Demand Clean Energy in Somerset!

The United Kingdom is getting ready to spend a fortune on dated and dangerous nuclear power production. It will cost 24 billion pounds to expand the Hinkley nuclear power station in Somerset, England.

Twenty-four billion pounds would buy an amazing amount of renewable energy infrastructure. And it's not just my opinion. A recent study, conducted by the Intergeneration Foundation shows that wind farms and solar power stations would cost billions less in taxpayer money. Wind and solar power have the potential to make a dent in the coming climate change storm. But, beyond that, because they are renewable resources, they don't pose the huge financial burden on future generations that the Hinkley expansion does.

Please join me in asking the United Kingdom Parliament to scrap the Hinkley extension and invest the money in sustainable energy instead.

Dear Parliament Members:

I was shocked to learn that you are even considering investing such a huge amount of public pounds in a dated and dangerous energy option. The proposed Hinkley power plant expansion is so expensive, England's grandchildren will still be paying for it. Meanwhile, nuclear power plants inevitably decline into Superfund sites, spreading toxicity everywhere in the region. Then taxpayers have to spend billions more in cleaning it up. Please stop this cycle. Take the money slated for the Hinkley expansion and invest it in wind farms and solar panels.
