Stop cruel annual Alberta Beach coyote killing contest

The fourth annual DKD Coyote Tournament is set to take place in Alberta Beach this Saturday, January 10th, 2015. Teams of two hunters pay a $50 entry fee and are then permitted to come onto a property and kill as many coyotes as they can.

The winners take home 50 per cent of the proceeds, the second-place team pulls in 30 per cent and the third-place team 20 per cent. Hunters can also claim cash prizes of $5 per person for each of the biggest, smallest, mangiest, and "wild card" animals killed in the contest.

It's legal in Alberta, Canada to kill coyotes on private land without a licence as long as the owner has given consent. The provincial government isn't concerned about the inhumanity of the tournament and, though they may wish to reduce the province's coyote population, this method has been proven ineffective. See: http://www.humanesociety.org/animals/coyotes/tips/against_killing_coyotes.html. Let's make them aware of our thoughts on this barbaric event!

Update #19 years ago
According to CBC News Edmonton: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/cash-prize-coyote-hunt-draws-more-hunters-following-outcry-1.2898156 "11 teams signed up for Saturday’s hunt on the final day of registration alone, bringing the total number to 39 teams across Alberta.

Together, the hunters killed 34 coyotes across the province, with the winning team bringing in 10 animals near Mayerthorpe".

With your support we'll prevent a 5th annual event from occuring next year.
