According to Monday's Shreveport Times, on March 24, several people were arrested
when a dog-fighting operation was busted on Saturday night in Sabine, La.
Dozens of people were watching the violent blood-sport when deputies, responding to a tip, came upon the dog fight in a heavily wooded area
near the community of Belmont.
Though ten people were arrested, several others scattered and ran, eluding deputies.
Two dogs were seized from the dog fight - according to KTAL News, the dogs were taken to
a local animal control and they will be euthanized.
The bodies of several other dogs were discovered near the site of the fight -
it is believed that the fights had been taking place for a long period of time.
Initial arrests made after the dog-fighting bust include:
Bobby R. Champion Jr., 44, Brian O. Isreal, 40, Kerry T. Kahey, 36, Carl J. Henry, 27,
Christopher D. Malmay, 21, Kenneth K. Maxie, 25, Loleta S. Neal, 33, Quannell T. Newton, 29,
Ronald C. Payne Jr., 42, and Okimo R. Sims, 30.
Those arrested face charges for aggravated animal cruelty and dog-fighting. Deputies have indicated that more arrests are forth-coming.
If convicted of the dog-fighting charges, those arrested could face fines between $1,000 and $25,000.
If convicted of aggravated animal cruelty, the suspects could face fines
ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 and up to ten years in prison.
