Head Start and Early Head Start are federally funded programs that give free childcare to those in poverty. The majority of people receiving this free childcare do not work and are on full public assistance. A mother of one making 20 grand a year is over income for this program. Only 10 percent of over income families are eligible for this free childcare.
This petition is to try and make this free daycare available to parents who work. It should also require parents receiving free daycare to get a job! Why should we give away free daycare to those who do not need it while other families are struggling?
The majority of the families receiving free child care through Head Start and Early Head Start are already on public assistance. Head Start and Early Head Start offer free meals, diapers, wipes and sunblock for these families. This includes baby formula! To top it of they even do laundry for the kids! I am all for helping families but there is a point where it becomes enabling. We need to help people get ahead instead of allowing them to stay where they are. This program is not helpful.
The argument is that thy educate families and children that are at risk. Allowing these parents to stay at home and do nothing does not help them become well rounded individuals or role models for their children.
