Create a Public Monument to Memorialize the Middle Passage

We are continuously reminded to remember events such as 911, Pearl Harbor, the Nazi's treatment of the Jews (and others) but there is No Public acknowledgement of the horrors and atrocities that were suffered by the Involuntary Immigrants brought here from Africa. These people endured the Middle Passage by boat from Africa to America in untold numbers. They were starved, beaten, raped and viewed as sub-human. Yet the American economy thrived because of their Free Labor. No compensation was paid to them or to their heirs. At a minimum, can we not today begin some kind of atonement by building a memorial in our nation's capitol which they built?
