Maine - Move Forward with Implementation & Strict Enforcement of Animal Cruelty Registry

I think most of you share a concern regarding the well-being and treatment of animals across our country and my continued goal is to ask all states to work on implementing and enforcing an animal cruelty registry. The current endeavor is within the state of Maine.  Animal cruelty throughout this state is of high concern and such a database would be a crucial tool in protecting these defenseless creatures.

Read http://www.mainelegislature.org/legis/bills/bills_125th/billtexts/HP056701.asp, http://www.maine.gov/dacf/ahw/animal_welfare/ that details some of the animal abuse and cruelty issues in Maine.  An animal cruelty database may not stop all abuse but would help in stopping any repeat issues.  Anyone who has been convicted of any type of abuse would be required to register on this database with all pertinent personal information, needing to be updated on a regular basis.  Anyone registered would be banned from every again owning a pet, caring for or working with animals for a lifetime.  The database would be a mandatory resource at all shelters, breeders, pet shops and any other pet-related industry.

Such a database needs to be implemented and strictly enforced if animal abuse, cruelty and neglect is ever going to stop. The effort of this petition is to encourage the state of Maine to create such a database and ensure the protection and well-being of animals.  You can help with this issue by signing and sharing this petition, adding your own thoughts and comments.

Maine State Legislators - Animal abuse, cruelty and neglect is continually on the rise and steps need to be taken to safeguard these defenseless creatures.  Please ensure that you implement and strictly enforce an animal cruelty registry database that is similar in stature to that of a child abuser or sex offender.
