Save America's Wolves Now!

Wolves throughout North America are under assault from special interest lobbies who are ignoring science based management and pursuing lethal and inhumane outcomes. ACT NOW by signing this petition sends a clear message to the Department of Interior to force the hands of states and local agencies to adhere to science based management. Stop the slaughter here.

Dear Interior Secretary Sally Jewell,

The undersigned conservation organizations and concerned citizens oppose current methods and outcomes of killing wolves that contradicts the more contemporary science available. We’ve identified stakeholders in the US to include hunting groups, industry, tourism, recreational groups, conservation groups, and voters who are passionate about upholding some or all of these interests.

Stakeholders have confidence in policies such as the Endangered Species Act to pursue the intended goals and objectives in protection of species threatened during our tenure. Current legislation in several US States puts these goals in danger by ignoring the scientific and conservation communities.

Our goals for the #SaveAmericasWolves petition are as follows:

  • Uphold the best science available and expect our elected and appointed officials to share this conviction, the conviction of concerned citizens.

  • Call into question and end the practices and methods of hunting and killing iconic predators such as wolves by use of poisons and traps that impacts other wildlife. Wildlife Services unintentionally kill millions of animals each year as a result of these accidental results.

  • Expose and end the tasteless promotion of wolf and coyote derbies across the country in place of management that respects all of the stakeholders.

  • Ensure Endangered Species Status of wolves across the United States, restore their historic range and a closer reflection of their historic populations.

Presently, they are only conserved and restored in a small portion of their original habitat. State and Federal government’s claims that killing wolves will save ungulate populations has little scientific merit as proven by the continued increase in elk populations in many Western States where wolves exist and hunting isn’t common.

Methods involving the sterilization, killing, trapping and/or poisoning of wolves has failed to halt the decline in elk populations. Killing more wolves will not miraculously save the elk. A strong argument can be made that declining elk populations has more to do with failure to adequately protect their habitat.

In many areas, elk population have crashed because of industry that competes with ungulates in their critical winter feeding grounds. Industry practices have upset the natural migration of these animals for over 100 years, leading to some changing their methods for better ecological outcomes.

We, the undersigned, who have signed the #SaveAmericasWolves petition, implore the US Department of the Interior to help bring about change through determined and vigilant leadership in recognition of all stakeholders.

Sincerely, See List of Signators
