Stop the unmonitored use of cat traps

Cat traps are lent out to the general public without being monitored by the city. Some cats have been left trapped in 30 degree heat for days, thro storms and with no food or water. These cats suffer greatly from mental anguish, stress, dehydration , possible brain damage and or death. This could be YOUR beloved family pet!! I know this because it happened to my ten month old kitten, Andy, just this past summer. He was lucky to have survived. The problem is the people who are trapping these cats do not care about the welfare of the cats, they see them as a nuisance and want to get rid of them. Some are driven out to the country and let go, worse yet, some are shot while still others are taken to the vet where they are held for three days then either re-homed (at best) or euthanized if not claimed. Three days is simply not enough time for an owner to claim their animal. What if the owner was out of town?? This time limit of three days needs to be changed to one week.

With the winter months upon us, cats caught in traps are subject to minus 40 or more, possibly for days at the hands of their captors. Melfort city workers should be checking these traps at least twice a day (start and end of daily shift) and dealing with the cats accordingly. Please sign the petition to tell the city to monitor its cat traps so that these cats are not left to suffer once caught in the traps. The three day allowance for claiming an animal is not enough. They should be held for one week to allow sufficient time for the owner to claim their animal.

Please sign the petition today to tell the City of Melfort to Revise the way trapped cats are handled and processed through the system.
