Cover Our Pets Under Insurance Plans

As of 2012, about 62% of American households included at least one pet. So why aren't our furry family members covered under our personal insurance plans? Existing elective pet insurance programs are costly and most don't cover treatments for serious diseases or health problems in older dogs and cats.

When our pets face serious difficulties, it becomes almost impossible for any family to afford out-of-pocket costs for the treatment needed. Many of us are faced with debt or loss of our pets as a result. It's a harsh reality I am currently facing with my own dog as I prepare to put her through Chemotherapy for Canine Lymphoma.

There has to be a better way. Let's ask the President, (a fellow pet lover), and insurance companies to reform insurance to include the entire family in our insurance plans.

Dear President Obama,

We appreciate all of your efforts in the area of healthcare reform, but we aren't finished until insurance plans cover the entire family. More than 60% of Americans include pets.

Unfortunately, when our dogs and cats are faced with serious health issues, many of us have a hard time meeting the staggering out-of-pocket costs on our own. Elective Pet insurance plans are costly and do not always cover treatment for older dogs and cats or healthcare for more serious conditions and diseases. I am facing this reality now, as many of us have, with my dog's Lymphoma diagnosis.

As a fellow pet lover, please get behind our cause. Make sure our entire family (paws-and-all) are included in our insurance plans so healthcare for pets is affordable and achievable for all Americans.
