Wisconsin Governor: Stop Wolf Culls to Reduce Illegal Killing

  • by: Sue Lee

The belief is that a wolf cull is necessary in preventing illegal poaching and killing in other countries and here in the United States.  Many wildlife conservation groups actually justify these culls to decrease such illegal hunting tactics. New and recent studies have shown that state-sanctioned culls throughout Wisconsin can literally lead to increased poaching issues.  Note the video within the attached article that may seem a bit unusual but the message it depicts is crucial that expresses serious implications to government wildlife authorities regarding the support of the culling of wolves.  U. S. Fish and Wildlife Services and biologist Treves at the University of Wisconsin-Madison states that “We’ve got a problem currently in wildlife management by the agencies: It’s the reliance on anecdote and a kind of ‘trust me’ attitude. I’m sorry, that sort of ‘trust me’ attitude doesn’t work. Additionally, the wolf population growth rate slowed by 25 percent during culling periods.” Treves also says that no one has considered wolf migration or reduced breeding. Wolf culling did not do anything more than actually cause more illegal killings of the animals.

The effort is this petition is to ask the Governor of Wisconsin to put an end to wolf culls that culminates in more illegal killing of the animals.  Wolves are no more insignificant in our life and environment than other wildlife and the culling, killing and poaching has to stop.  You can help in this effort by signing and sharing this petition, adding your own thoughts, comments and ideas.
