Stiffen and Lengthen Prison Charges for Animal Abusers

A girl who wrapped duct tape around a dog’s muzzle and strangled her to death with a lead has been given a four month prison sentence – and will most likely be out before it’s over. A maximum sentance for an animal abuser is 51 weeks in jail or a maximum fine of £20,000. Unfortunately this is not a deterrent as many of these criminals end up only serving half this. According to the government, there have been about one thousand convictions under the Animal Welfare Act, with an estimates 10% being jailed.

The law needs to be stricter and the sentenced doubled. With so many perpetrators going on to own other pets after their conviction the cycle continues but needs to be ended. Please sign this petition to help enforce/improve the law and help stop animal abuse today.

Yours sincerely Tilly Rawlinson
