Los Angeles Times: Stop Running SeaWorld Ads!

  • by: Chris Wolverton

SeaWorld is desperate to repair their reputation after the 2013 documentary "Blackfish" revealed the risks of keeping killer whales in captivity, and widely publicized the deaths of three orca trainers who worked at the park. A new print and YouTube campaign features veterinarians claiming that SeaWorld's orcas are healthy and well cared for. The one-side propaganda campaign is expected to run long-term in papers such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Los Angeles Times.

The park has suffered loss of revenue, performance cancellations and dissolved partnerships over the past few years because of "Blackfish" and other bad publicity, including leaked veterinary records obtained by Buzzfeed that revealed SeaWorld's use of anti-anxiety drugs on their animals.

One-sided ads won't change the facts. Orcas don't belong in captivity, and keeping them at SeaWorld produces anxiety and abnormal behaviors that endanger trainers and spectators. Please sign the petition to urge the L.A. Times to stop running SeaWorld ads!

We, the undersigned, are concerned that you are running ads for SeaWorld, despite now-common knowledge that keeping orcas in captivity is dangerous and unnatural.

As you know, SeaWorld is desperate to repair their reputation after the 2013 documentary "Blackfish" revealed the risks of keeping killer whales in captivity, and widely publicized the deaths of three orca trainers who worked at the park.

We respectfully urge you to stop running SeaWorld ads. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
