To the clients of Benetook Veterinary Clinic WE NEED YOUR HELP

Despite our objections, the Mildura Rural City Council has APPROVED the planning permit for a GO-KART RACING TRACK on the land next to our horse paddocks.

These are used for horses under our care when ill, having surgery, recovering from surgery or for reproductive cycling.

Owners expect a safe environment when animals are hospitalised at our hospital.

Horses injure themselves and others, including owners and veterinary staff, when frightened. Injuries severe enough to require euthanasia or long term pain and suffering to the horse may occur. The GO-KART RACING TRACK poses this risk.

Proposed hours of operation of the GO-KART RACING TRACK are 10am- 10pm under lights.

Horses recuperating from illness or injury or surgery need the ability to rest in peace and quiet and natural light.

This Go-Kart racing track poses an unacceptable risk to our patients, our staff and your pets. Please sign our PETITION if you agree.
Also let your councillors know if you are agreeing to our OBJECTION.

We will now take our OBJECTION to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) in the hope of overturning this planning decision.

Dear VCAT Member,

There is overwhelming community support to overturn the Mildura Rural City Council's decision to approve a Go Kart Race track, next to the Benetook Veterinary Hospital. Horses are cared for here in paddocks, until they have recovered from ilness and surgery. The nearest equivalent veterinary facility for equine medicine and surgery is over 350kms away.

Update #28 years ago
I have wonderful news. The appeal process is over and a decision has been made at VCAT to set aside (overturn) the decision of the Mildura Rural City Council.
THERE WILL BE NO GO-KART TRACK NEXT TO THE HORSES AT OUR VETERINARY CLINIC!!!!!
Our horses can recover from illness and surgery in peace, without a go-kart track 10 meters away.
Thank you so much to all of you associated with Care2.
Update #19 years ago
Thank you everyone - your response to a simple planning issue for a country vet in Australia, established for 30 years, is overwhelming. The number of signatures now exceeds our town population! I now just hope that our Council will listen. A GoKart Track within 10 metres of my horse paddocks is just too close and too risky, for my patients, my vets, and my nurses.
Cheers, Dr William Sutherland
