Allow baby asha and her parents to stay in Australia permanently

  • by: Georgie Hislop
  • recipient: Prime minister Malcolm Turnbull and Immigration minister Peter Dutton

Baby Asha was born in Australia and at 5 months old she and her nepalese christian parents who were seeking asylum were sent to Nauru detention centre.
The now 1 year old baby was brought into lady cilento children's hospital in brisbane a month ago after suffering accidental burns on nauru.
she has now recovered however significant burns recuire ongoing medical treatment.
the doctors who looked after her are now refusing to discharge her[ despite the risk of a 2 year jail term if they don't], as she will be sent with her parents back to nauru as soon as she is discharged and they believe it is an unsuitable environment for a child.
the queensland labour government is backing the doctors decision to keep baby Asha at the hospital.
the federal government remains adamant however that as soon as she is discharged she and her parents will be sent back to Nauru.

Im asking Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Immigration Minister Peter Dutton to please show some compassion and allow this baby and her parents to stay in Australia

Update #18 years ago
Immigration minister peter dutton recently announced that baby asha was being released into community detention in brisbane but that she would be returned with her family to nauru detention centre.
