Wallace Bridge Held Hostage

Wallace Bridge is a proposed equestrian venue which would attract horse enthusiasts from all parts of the globe. Below, are just some of the ways in which the Wallace Bridge Equestrian Center would benefit Yamhill and Polk Counties.

* Estimates are this would bring in 850 construction jobs.

* Wallace Bridge will provide approximately 246 full time jobs and 177 part-time jobs.

* 12 million dollar annual payroll.

* 100 million dollar infrastructure improvement.

* proponent is not asking for any government loans support or handouts to build.

* We believe the Wetlands Reserve Program would benefit with increased habitat value land being added to the easement.

* A Hearings officer from the National Appeals Division (NAD) agreed that the Wallace Bridge modification request, more than met all the environmental rules and regulations to grant a modification of the easement.

* All environmental studies to date, show this as a win for the wildlife habitat.

* We are disappointed that the NRCS has a policy of simply "saying no" to Habitat Easement modifications (unless there is a gross technical error)

* We believe the National Appeals Division (NAD) Director’s decision to reject the easement modification is based solely on administrative reasons and fails to consider the positive environmental benefits, the increased jobs and tax base to Yamhill and Polk Counties.

* Yamhill and Polk Counties desperately need these jobs and this additional tax base.

* The Polk County Sheriff’s office is reducing on-road patrols by deputies to only ten hours per day. The extra taxable property in Polk County would help bring more money to help fund operations such as the Sheriff’s office.

* Polk County is undergoing a financial funding crisis in government due to the loss of O & C timber monies. A project like Wallace Bridge that brings income to the West Valley and as long as there does not present a negative environmental impact should be strongly considered.

Dear Mr. Wyden,

We the undersigned, being citizens of, or concerned about, the economic future of Yamhill and Polk Counties, support the Wallace Bridge project. We believe the project would benefit the Wetlands Reserve Program and bring jobs to our community and an additional much needed tax base to the west Valley.

We disagree with the actions of the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and are asking our elected officials to intervene. We as voters are mindful that elected representatives who take positions contrary to our strong beliefs are very much at risk of losing our votes, and we will tell our friends.

We want the jobs Wallace Bridge would create and the additional tax base it would bring to this region of Oregon.
