BAN Debarking / Devocalization in dogs

  • by: Jana DiCarlo

Unless  the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) changes its policy on devocalization, countless dogs and cats will continue to be subjected to the pain and risks of devocalization just for the “crime” of communicating. The worst part , is that debarking a dog does nothing to prevent its chances of being surrendered to shelters, nor improve its chances of being adopted, nor remaining in its present home - the statistics prove this.

The only thing it can lead to is choking on food or drink, rasping , gagging, vomitting, then gagging on vomit.

DO NOT DO IT.

Train your dog not to yap. And if you do not want to hear a bark - don't get a dog!!

NO vet is forced to cut healthy vocal cord tissue OR kill a healthy animal for unwanted barking or meowing.Vets are free to refuse BOTH acts of cruelty. But not all vets do. The AVMA policy enables this selfish, dangerous elective surgery.
