Lancaster University, your alumni want you to commit to divestment!

Lancaster University, your alumni want you to divest from fossil fuels, the arms trade and tobacco to be on the right side of history!

Last week you released a statement to the Lancaster Guardian about your new investment direction:

“Lancaster University is shifting the emphasis of its investments strategy into new technologies as part of its commitment to environmental sustainability.

“The university has been working with its Students’ Union to review its portfolio of endowment and unrestricted investments, in particular a portfolio of around £1m shares which will provide the funding for the new investments.

“We are now researching companies and technologies which will positively deliver on environmental sustainability.

“We will look to become part of a fund that targets such companies and novel approaches that could help provide a more sustainable future.”

As an institution that now seeks to follow the above, you need to divest from fossil fuels! Climate change is happening with 97% of climate scientists in agreement this is likely a consequence of human behaviour.

Lancaster we call on you to show your support for communities on the front lines of climate change, your future students and the green energy transition. Move your money out of fossil fuels and into renewables!
