On March 24, 2014, a Toledo, Ohio, female, stray dog was maliciously shot
and the cruel act cost the pet her front leg. Police have identified the shooter as 25-year-old Marcus L. Crawford of 841 Lucas St., and are looking for him. The now three-legged dog received medical care and is on the mend.
The stray was named June and on March 31, 2014, she underwent leg amputation surgery performed
by Dr. Brooke West of West Toledo Animal Hospital.
Prior to the surgery, the canine was in extreme pain due to the leg being swollen,
the bone being shattered, and part of the leg muscle being dead, but as soon as the leg was removed
the rescued dog felt a lot better.
When June was found injured, she was taken to an emergency vet clinic and then transferred
to Lucas County Canine Care & Control. Her surgery was covered by Lucas County Cutie’s Fund.
This program helps dogs taken to Lucas County Canine Care and Control by covering all medical expenses.
After the surgery June was released to Planned Pethood, and the organization placed her in foster care.
The three-legged dog will spend a few months getting rehabilitated and socialized before she is available for adoption.
The shooter, Mr. Crawford faces animal cruelty charges, as well as charges for discharging a firearm,
having a weapon under disability, and carrying a concealed weapon. Police are still looking for him
and in a matter of time he will be found and placed behind bars.
