The animals at Surabaya Zoo are dying cruel and horrible deaths. The tigers are emaciated, the bears sickly, the pelicans packed so tightly they cannot unfurl their wings. Last week, a giraffe died with a beachball-sized wad of plastic food wrappers in its belly.
The Surabaya Zoo is a nightmare, plagued by uncontrolled breeding, a lack of funding for general animal welfare and even persistent suspicions that members of the staff are involved in illegal wildlife trafficking. Someone needs to stand up for all of the animals suffering at the Surabays Zoo before it's too late.
The heartbreaking conditions at the Surabaya Zoo must end now. Animals are starving to death, a giraffe recently died with a ball of plactic in the stomach eating whatever garbage visitors threw at her, bears with skin conditions, tigers with missing ears, and overcrowing and lack of population control has the Zoo reeling in disaster. Immediate action must be taken if there is any hope for the suffering residents of zoo. I am sure there are many global organizations that can help relocate the survivors. This is an urgent situation that can no longer go unresolved. Time is of the essence for the residents of the Surabaya Zoo. Thank you for your time.
Because time is of the essence for all the lives at stake at the zoo, today I delivered the petition with almost 4,000 signatures from around the world via email to the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums and the South East Asia Zoos Association, and sent the 144 page petition by hard copy to Indonesia's President. I hope and pray that the precious animals at the Surabaya Zoo will now get the help they so desperately need. Thank you all for your support.
