Florida- Lions are NOT Taco Meat!

  • by: Animal Advocates
  • recipient: Governor of Florida Rick Scott,-United States Department of Agriculture Tom Vilsack,- Taco Fusion owner Ryan Gougeon

A restaurant in South Tampa Florida, Taco Fusion, has been selling tacos with lion meat for $35.

The African lion is in serious, rapid decline, and the population is approaching critical. Over the last 50 years, the African lion population has declined about 75 percent. To serve this species with salsa for $35 is both disturbing and heinous.

The owner of the restaurant, Ryan Gougeon says, "Paranoia has set in as some folks have had their reality challenged. They say that we’ve “crossed the line” by serving Lion. But let me ask you this, did you cross the line when you ate beef, chicken, or pork this week?"

We ask that authorities explain to the restaurant owner the difference between livestock, and wildlife species threatened with extinction. If someone does not understand which species are in serious decline and facing extinction, perhaps he should not be handling food sold to the public and permitted to own a restaurant.
