Prime Minister David Cameron: Please Ban Wild Animals in Circuses

Please sign and share this petition worldwide in an effort to get Prime Minister David Cameron of the UK to enforce the bill that was published in April of 2014 that proposes to ban the use of wild animals in British circuses. There's since been little progress to bring the legislation into law but we need to encourage the Prime Minister to do so!

In recent months, a bill has passed that bans wild animals from performing circuses but the bill has not yet been enforced. Last month, David Cameron reaffirmed his commitment to ban wild animal acts to an ADI delegation. ADI Chief Executive, Jan Creamer, “I am delighted that Sir Roger Moore and Imelda Staunton OBE are urging the Queen to support the promised ban on wild animals in circuses, which has support from the public and politicians alike. The Government has promised a ban and we want to see it happen. Further delays will result in continued animal suffering."

Talks culminated back in 2012 regarding the intention to introduce legislation to prohibit the use of wild animals in circuses and last month ADI secured a commitment from the Prime Minister that a ban would be passed. However, following the publication of the Draft Wild Animals in Circuses Bill last April, little progress has been made to bring this legislation into law, despite an implementation date of December 2015 being proposed in the Bill. As a result of this delay, big cats have already been returned to the circus scene, in the hands of a relative that has previously been prosecuted for animal cruelty.

What is the delay in passing this bill? Cameron states “Yes, we are going to do it.”When? ADI Chief Executive Creamer goes on to say “We are delighted that David Cameron has promised the ADI deputation that he will bring forward the ban on wild animals. So many celebrities and politicians have joined ADI to call on the Government to implement its promised ban on wild animals in circuses. After a 20 year wait the public wants to see this done and if the Government fails to deliver on this promise, it will be directly responsible for continued animal suffering."

Other regions and at least 25 countries around the world have placed national restrictions on the use of wild animals in circuses, and we want the UK to abide according to this new bill.

Prime Minister David Cameron - The bill to ban wild animals in circuses has recently been passed but nothing has yet to be done to enforce the issues outlined in it. At this point, wild animals can still be used in circuses and will continue until you do more to enforce the bill. Please ensure that you implement what is outlined in this bill and keep wild animals out of the circuses and potential animal abuse!
