A man admitted to raping a 14-year-old girl, but Texas State District Judge Jeanine Howard gave the man a meager 45-day sentence and probation at a rape crisis center. She says she issued the ruling because the victim "wasn't the victim she claimed to be," citing medical records showing she had 3 sexual partners in the past and had given birth to a baby -- even though her mother says claims of a pregnancy are untrue.
20-year-old Sir Young sexually assaulted the girl at her school. The girl's mother said her daughter has never been pregnant. She also said she was "livid" over the judge's comments.
The rape crisis center did not welcome the ruling, either.
"I don't believe [Judge Howard] understands what we do," the director of the Dallas Rape Crisis Center told CNN. "If she would have called us prior to issuing the conditions of probation, we would have told her and explained what we do at the center and how that's not possible."
Young people cannot properly consent to sexual activity. Giving rapists light sentences while implying the victim was promiscuous contributes to rape culture. Demand this judge be removed from the bench!
Gov. Perry, Children cannot consent to sexual activity. We demand you unseat Judge Jeanine Howard for her blatant disregard for justice in rape cases and victim-blaming mentality, as illustrated in the case of Sir Young.
