According to Waking Times, opioid painkiller prescription rates have increased over 300% throughout the last 10 years. Americans are the highest opioid users making up 80% of the world's total use. There have been misleading and false claims reported by Big Pharma. As Big Pharma were the manufacturers of the addictive opioid drugs, they must be held accountable as they facilitated the opioid epidemic. Big Pharma has mislead doctors and patients by downplaying the addictiveness of synthetic opioids and by promoting opioid drugs as safe over long-term periods, thus increasing sales through these misleading claims. The Addiction and Recovery Act has been introduced but does not address Big Pharma, the root cause of the opioid epidemic, but rather introduces more anti-addictive drugs, increasing profit for pharmaceutical companies.
