DON'T PAVE ANY MORE FOREST!

SLEEPING BEAR NATURALLY is calling for a MORATORIUM on further construction of the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail until a full Environmental Impact Statement can be done.  This major infrastructure project plans to construct an 10 foot wide asphalt road for bicyclists through the entire length of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, on a route away from roads, through untouched forests, wooded wetlands and fragile dune areas.  The actual cleared zone is 20 to 30 feet wide.  This impact was not evaluated in the Environmental Assessment that was paid for by business interests that stand to profit from bicycle tourism.

SLEEPING BEAR NATURALLY is a group of nature lovers who want the National Park Service to be true to its mission -- to protect and preserve the lands entrusted to it by the people for future generations.  Four miles of the proposed 27 mile route have been paved.  That's enough for anyone to see the zone of destruction that will exist forever if this project continues.

We demand a  MORATORIUM ON FURTHER CONSTRUCTION OF THE SLEEPING BEAR HERITAGE TRAIL UNTIL A FULL, INDEPENDENT ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT IS DONE.  DON'T PAVE ANY MORE FOREST!
