Over 137,000 horses are shipped over our borders to Mexico each year to be slaughtered. 10,000 more are slaughtered within our borders. Some say this is a necessary evil, but it's not euthanasia. Euthanasia is a quick, painless death for horses that are suffering, but slaughterhouses are abusive, frightening and downright cruel. Horses that can no longer walk are dragged by cords into the pens. The horses often injure themselves and other horses and are denied veterinary care. They stand in the heat with no water, food or shelter. Often in places like Arizona or Mexico, the heat gets to be over 100 degrees. We need to stop this awful practice now!
