Canada is looking to empower the National Energy Board with a decision on how energy companies would impact fish habitats which would interfere with current regulations by the Department of fisheries and Oceans. The National Energy Board wants to take all responsibilities and powers away from them, beginning with the Memorandum-of-Understanding (MOU).

The MOU is an actual stepping stone in protecting fish and their habitat when it comes to dealing with interprovincial and international pipeline and electrical power line projects. They feel strongly with the fact that the Department of Fisheries and Oceans should continue to issue permits although one of their aims is that any work coordinated under them will enable the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and the National Energy Board to propose regulations that will benefit and protect.

While energy, power and pipe lines are a necessary resource, Canada needs to ensure that proper regulations are followed for the health and welfare of fish and other marine life. Please sign and share this petition to tell Canada they should not impact the health of its fish and the Fisheries when it comes to energy companies, pipelines and power lines.

Canada’s Department of Fisheries and Oceans and the National Energy Board in accordance with the MOU – While progress and energy is important, it is imperative that the energy companies, pipe lines and power lines consider the health and well-being of all fish and marine life. Both the DFO and NEB should work closely together in accordance with the MOU so that all energy practices and installations are safe and effective without causing harm to life in the oceans and waterways. Protecting the fish is a major concern.
