WEN Hair Loss: Change Law Preventing the FDA from Protecting Citizens!

The FDA has issued an alert about WEN products after receiving more than 21,000 complaints. People are complaining of rashes, breakage and BALDNESS!

One consumer, an 11-year-old girl, lost nearly all of her hair and was terrified it would never come back. Like many users, she and her mother were drawn to the television testimonials by famous women who attested to the promise of beautiful hair with the use of WEN.

Unfortunately, the FDA cannot take any action against WEN or any other manufacturer of products that fall under the heading of "cosmetic" industry. This is due to the fact that in 1938 Congress enacted a law that removed the FDA's power to approve its products.

While cosmetics may not sound like something that should be deemed safe before reaching the market, stop and think about the products that fall under this category: baby shampoo, toothpaste and deodorant just to name a few. All of these products come into contact with our bodies!

According to attorney Tina Sigurdson, with the Environmental Working Group. “There’s no legal requirement that a company makes sure a product is safe before they sell it.”

Please join me in asking the United States Congress to give the FDA the authority to determine and approve cosmetic product safety.

Attn: United States Congress Oversight Commission

We (the undersigned) are deeply concerned that the FDA is not allowed to approve cosmetic products before they reach the consumer.

As an example, WEN hair care products, touted by famous spokepersons are making some people experience physical, biological reactions. This includes baldness, rashes, and hair breakage. The FDA has issued an alert, but its power is limited.

There are products out of the reach of the FDA that come into contact with infants. Toothpaste goes into our mouths and array of other products touch our skin. The skin is the largest organ of the human body. It needs protection too.

Human beings should not unknowingly be used as test subjects.

Sincerely,
