Nebraska: No Parental Rights for Rapists!
33 states have legislation that prevents rapists from seeking custody and/or visitation rights of children conceived through their sexual assault. Nebraska has yet to offer legislation to protect women and their children from rapists seeking parental rights.
Every year, an estimated 17,000 to 32,000 pregnancies occur as a result of sexual assault. According to the Rape Survivors Child Custody Act, 73 percent of these women carry their children to term, and 64 percent of them raise the children. Nebraska's lack of protection against rapists seeking custody leaves women vulnerable to costly and emotionally stressful legal battles with their rapists.
Rape survivors deserve separation from their rapists for the rest of their lives. Please sign the petition to urge Nebraska legislators to pass laws preventing rapists from seeking custody or visitation rights of children conceived through sexual assault.
