Help Keep Americans Safe From Bird Flu!

  • by: Chris Wolverton

Bird flu is on the rise in large-scale poultry farms, but Republican lawmakers want to cut funding for the agency that helps control it.

President Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress are planning big budget cuts to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the agency that tracks avian flu outbreaks and works with the United States Department of Agriculture to help keep humans safe from the virus.

Republican Speaker of the House Paul Ryan's plans to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA, or Obamacare) would further harm the CDC. Repealing the ACA would cut the Prevention and Public Health fund, which accounts for nearly $900 million in funding for the CDC. This cut would further strain the CDC's efforts to track bird flu.

Please sign the petition to urge Republican lawmakers to reconsider their plans to cut funding for the CDC!

Dear [elected official],

I am concerned that lawmakers are pushing to cut funding for the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) during a time when bird flu is on the rise.

I understand that you are planning big budget cuts to the CDC, the agency that tracks avian flu outbreaks and works with the United States Department of Agriculture to help keep humans safe from the virus.

Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan, plans to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which would further harm the CDC. Repealing the ACA would cut the Prevention and Public Health fund, which accounts for nearly $900 million in funding for the CDC. This cut would further strain the CDC's efforts to track bird flu.

I respectfully urge you to reconsider your plans to cut funding for the CDC. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider this petition.
