Support Endangered Species Protections for Monarch Butterflies!
Monarch butterflies have been in decline for years, and with herbicides killing their only source of food, they're now in worse trouble than ever.
The colorful, iconic butterflies fell from a high of 1 billion in the mid-'90s to only 35 million in 2013, and that number is only a tenth of the population average. Monsanto's Roundup herbicide is destroying milkweed -- the monarch caterpillar's only food source -- like no poison has before. Climate change, urban sprawl, and logging on their winter grounds in Mexico also carry the blame for the butterfly's falling populations.
Environmental and food-safety groups are calling on the U.S. Fish and Wildlife service to add monarch butterflies to the endangered species list to protect them from further decline. Please sign the petition to save the monarch butterfly before it's too late!
