Against Common Core (Engage New York)

As a parent of two children in elementary school homework time has went from about an hour to three plus hours of math accompanied by crying, yelling and lots of frustration from the kids along with myself. Here in my own terms is how I along with plenty of other parents feel about the common core in our school.

1. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the "old way" that math was taught. Here is what started this whole new journey..........a grant. We signed up without knowlege of knowing what we were signing up for because the standards nor the test had been written yet. We wanted points because the more points, the more likely we were to win a federal grant. Well guess what??? We didn't win, but we are still members of the CC and SBAC unless we take the specific steps to get out which is what we need to do NOW!

2. This was never debated by the public, teacher or legislative. It was brought in under the radar claiming to be "state led". The whole thing was pushed by the feds from the beginning. Do your homework and you will see.

3. It is illegal. The constitution gives education solely to the states and prevent the federal government from overseeing, directing and gathering educational data for the purpose of putting a mandate on states.
