Mattel, Please Don't Retire American Girl Dolls of Color!

  • by: Kristi Arnold
  • recipient: Jean McKenzie, president of American Girl and Mattel Executive

American Girl discontinued two of their historical dolls of color, leaving Asian and black girls with fewer dolls that represent themselves.

Let's tell American Girl to bring back these American Girl dolls of color!

Former slave Addy is now the only African American character left; when Cécile launched, she was praised as an alternative for "parents who found that educational narrative a bit heavy for playtime, or who simply want to provide their children with a broader picture of the black experience in America."

While American Girl should still be praised for having three minorities in its lineup of seven dolls currently, taking away two minority choices is bad for minority American girls looking for that option.

Ask American Girl to bring back or add more minority options to its lineup!

Dear Madam,

We the undersigned ask that you bring back or add more minority options for American Girl.

We believe you should bring back these American Girl dolls of color!
